Film Adaptation of ‘Brightly Shining’ Receives 5/6 Stars

The film adaptation of Ingvild H. Rishøi’s bestselling novel Brightly Shining has received 5/6 stars in a glowing review from Norwegian daily newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad:

“The small, bestselling novel has now become film. […] A film that fortunately retains the delicate tone of the book. […] Brightly Shining is a ‘show, don’t tell’ type of film. You see the empty fridge; the girls don’t say it. You see the glances exchanged between the two sisters as they worry about what their father might do. The film captures their brave attempts to make up stories to escape into when the real world becomes too difficult. You perceive all their little white lies to make things look better than they are. All this demands much from the young actors, who perform exceptionally well in this film.”

At the helm of the production is director Ida Sagmo Tvedte. The film premiered in Norway on October 17th, 2025. The film is produced by Motlys.
