Film Adaptation of ‘Brightly Shining’ Receives Two Awards
The film adaptation of Ingvild H. Rishøi’s acclaimed novel Brightly Shining has won two awards at the international film festival Filem’On: the TV Award and the Kids Award.
The winner of the Kids Award is decided by a jury of children and awarded to the best feature film for young audiences. Here’s their motivation:
“[Brightly Shining] really stood out because of the great acting, nice atmosphere and a strong message.”
The film was also awarded the TV Award, which highlights the best television content, series or film, for young audiences. The winner is picked by a professional jury, and here’s their motivation for choosing Brightly Shining:
“This film offers a moving and hopeful portrait of children growing up in difficult circumstances, without lapsing into sentimentality. Set against a modest yet warm Christmas backdrop, an authentic story unfolds about resilience, sisterhood and the importance of community. Themes such as alcoholism, poverty, and absent parents are treated with empathy and subtlety, keeping the child’s perspective at the heart of the film. Thanks to Ronja’s strong performance, the understated humor, and the hopeful yet open ending, the result is an original Christmas film suitable for the whole family.”
The winners were announced during a ceremony on November 2nd, 2025.
The film, directed by Ida Sagmo Tvedte and produced by Motlys, premiered in Norway on October 17th, 2025.
