Ingvild H. Rishøi Praised by The Wall Street Journal
The US edition of Ingvild H. Rishøi’s critically acclaimed novel Brightly Shining has received exceptional praise from esteemed American daily newspaper The Wall Street Journal:
“December is similarly blanketed with snow in the Oslo of Ingvild Rishøi’s Brightly Shining, a winning holiday tale with just the right proportions of hardship and hope. […] For all of its irony about holiday consumerism, Ms. Rishøi’s book never quite gives up on the spirit of Christmas. ‘I can’t not hope’, Ronja says, and she finds support for her attitude in warmly portrayed side characters, such as her school’s caretaker, who sneaks her lunches, and an elderly neighbor who becomes a surrogate grandfather. Most of all she’s buoyed by Melissa, and in the story’s magical ending a well-timed snowstorm turns the Christmas tree lot into a winter paradise that the sisters explore together.”
Brightly Shining was published in the US by Grove Atlantic on November 19th, 2024.
