Jonas Eika Nominated for Politiken’s Literature Prize
Jonas Eika’s novel Open Heavens has been nominated for the prestigious Politiken’s Literature Prize. Established in 2012, the prize is awarded annually by important daily newspaper Politiken to support talented Danish authors in the further development of their authorship.
This year, the nominated authors are divided into four different categories. Jonas Eika and Open Heavens is nominated in the category ‘The Human Core’. The motivation for the nomination reads as follows:
“Open Heavens is a 700 pages long page-turner about the Christian women’s movement the Beguines in Liège, Belgium during the 13th century. We follow five women, as they pray, walk around in the city, weave and have visions. There is a quiet drama on every single page, and there is not one sentence that has been sacrificed on the alter of historical fiction’s research. It is a historical novel, but it is queer and full of incredible shifts between the otherworldly/spiritual/the spirit and the earthly/materialistic/the flesh. So full of religion and politics. So full of care and indignation.”
The four winners of the Politiken’s Literature Prize, decided through a public vote, will be announced at the end of February.
