Rosa Liksom Highlighted by Finnish Government Initiative

Rosa Liksom’s authorship has been highlighted in the Finnish government’s project Nordic Literature: Genres and Phenomenon. The project, a website highlighting and exploring northern Finnish literature and its history, is a collaboration between the city Oulu’s library and university. Here’s what they had to say about Compartment No. 6:

“In her work, society’s painful focal points and the blind spots of the past become visible in the ironic conversation between art, popular culture, history and Liksom’s own author persona. […] Compartment No. 6 is on one hand a fierce description of the absurd Soviet everyday life, and on the other hand a thoughtful, sometimes longing, memoir of the Soviet culture. [Compartment No. 6 and Kreisland] are both their own sort of retrospective of the modernization of the 20th century.”

After Liksom’s first novel Kreisland, published by WSOY in 1996, she has written multiple novels, including Compartment No. 6, published by WSOY on September 1st, 2011, and her latest novel The River, published by Like on September 1st, 2021.
