The Fredrika Storm Series
Fredrika Storm grew up in the small town of Harlösa, where the tight-knit community could be suffocating at times. Eager to leave, Fredrika decided to try her wings as a police officer in the capital. However, during a critical operation to apprehend a human trafficker, a reckless decision of hers led to her partner, Marcus, being fatally shot. Although an internal investigation cleared her of any blame, the tragedy forced Fredrika
to leave her position in Stockholm. Now back in her home region of Skåne, she’s still haunted by the guilt and the events of that night.
Once in Lund Fredrika is paired up with Henry Calment – who is, in many aspects, the complete opposite of her. Henry has always wanted to find his own path in life, distinct from his family’s storied legacy. Becoming a police investigator was his own choice, and serves as a statement toward his family, something his mother never lets him forget. Henry leads a peaceful life in his big apartment in the city center of Lund, he enjoys good food and wine, and is a member of a secret society called Isis Nodus. In his work as a police investigator, Henry’s connections to influential people can both be an advantage and a hinder.
Fredrika, on the other hand, has always wanted to join the police force and is relentlessly dedicated to her work. This also creates struggles in her personal life; who can handle someone whose world revolves around their job? When Fredrika meets the coroner Jonas Chen and he shows interest in her, she sees her chance at a normal life with a home full of love and a family of her own. It is something she has been yearning for ever since her mother left the family twenty years ago, and never came back. Fredrika has always wondered why her mother left and whether she is even alive. When her first case back at home unexpectedly involves her own family, long buried secrets begin to surface.
Despite both Fredrika and Henry having solid inner walls to protect themselves, they find solace in each other and their differences. Throughout the series, they tackle criminal matters as well as personal ones together. With a sharp eye for intelligent suspense and a steady hand, Frida Skybäck takes us through mysteries set against the backdrop of the Swedish South, often inspired by true events. At once engaging and moving, the Fredrika Storm series grabs hold of the reader from the very first page.
